It was all fun and games at Agape Family Picnic

It might have been about two years since Agape Christian School students, staff and their families came together for the school’s annual picnic held at Camp Abaco, but everyone more than made up for the lull with a great turnout, complete with lots of fun and games.
The scenic grounds of Camp Abaco were transformed into a game zone on Saturday, September 19, from 11am to 4pm, where students got the chance to participate in some creative games based on their grade level, which were organized by the staff and cheered on by parents.
Each student and their parents were assigned either to the Red Eagles Team or the Blue Eagles Team, fostering friendly competition, laughs and jokes and a strong sense of school spirit.
Some of the innovative (and yes zany) games included, William Tell apple relay, kangaroo relay, tunnel ball, peanut hunt, building the tallest sandcastle, balloon volleyball, M& M race, three legged race, egg n’ spoon race, coconut hockey, and of course the grand finale event, tug of war. Parents and alumni were on hand to cheer and also participate in the favourite event of tug of war with some grandparents on the sidelines.
“The picnic was incredible,” first grade teacher, Mrs. Claire Marshall said. “I enjoyed mingling with families and seeing the students in a different surrounding other than school.”
Kindergarten 4 teacher, Mrs. Brenda Bain also agreed and went on to say, “It was a great turnout although I would have liked to see more high school students next time. But there were plenty of games in which everyone participated,” Mrs. Brenda said.
Since it was a beautiful, sunny day, picnic goers also used the time to dip in the nearby beach in between games and enjoy their own lunches they brought.
“It was a great day with the kids and my family,” Art and Home Economics teacher Mrs. Stacey Adderley said.
“I had a great time fellowshipping with all the other families. It was good sportsmanship between the two teams and I can’t wait to see what next year’s picnic will bring,” she said.
After participating in the games in the Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, Grade 4-6, High School and Adult categories, Principal Cecile Albury tallied the points. Along with the total for each team, each student received ten points for attending the picnic. Principal Albury then quickly announced that the overall winner for this year’s annual picnic was the Blue Eagles with 2,160 points, edging out Red Eagles with a total of 1,980 points.
According to Principal Albury the school family picnic was a great way to jumpstart the new school year.
“The Agape Eagles have always been able to fly together from the first day of school sixteen years ago. The annual picnic is an excellent way to begin the academic year. We are able, even those grand parents attending, to let our hair down and have some fun,” Principal Albury said.
“As a school we have improved and with the team of students, parents, extended family, staff, board and faculty we have on board, this year will be the best yet with the picnic only the beginning,” she said.
Principal Albury was also appreciative of the way how everyone came together to make the day a success.
“Teachers and staff who worked so hard to make the day great are to be commended for their efforts. We are thankful to our Heavenly Father for the great weather, high tide, safety, and over all terrific day. Camp Abaco and those in charge have always been gracious, helpful and we wish to thank them again for the use of their grounds,” Principal Albury said.
Meanwhile, students like sixth grader Cierra Carroll, thoroughly enjoyed the picnic and are looking forward to the next one.
“It was a lot of fun and I was on the Blue Team and we won. It was something fun to do on a Saturday,” Cierra said.
